Creative Thinking Enhanced with Dim Lighting

According to A. Steidle and L. Werth’s article “Freedom from Constraints: Darkness and Dim Illumination Promote Creativity” written for the Journal of Environmental Psychology (September 2013), creative thinking is enhanced within dimly lit spaces.  When subjects were placed in rooms with dim lighting or made to think of dim lighting their thoughts were more creative and insightful, owing to a sense of being free of constraints. Careful and logical thinking, however, was repressed in dim environments.
